This book! This story! These characters! I was so invested so early on and these characters will live rent free in my mind for a while. There was tension and sass, grumpy x grumpy and all the small town charm I needed. Coach Cam and his strong thighs has my head still spinning! And Adalyn and her fierce pants suits was everything! Plus we love a slow burn and some self growth.

The story follows Adalyn who is sent to her version of the middle of nowhere after a scandal that threatened her Dads company and legacy. Her assignment is to turn around the struggling local soccer team, the Green Warriors, as a way to redeem herself. Problem is, said team is made up of sassy 9 year olds who bring chaos to Adalyn’s step by step plan to redeem herself. To make things worse, the teams coach, Cameron, is a grumpy (and sexy) ex-soccer star who seems insistent on making matters worse for Adalyn. Despite her initial refusal, Adalyn realizes she needs Cameron to turn this ragtag of group of sassy tutu wearing 9 year olds to the finals in order to fix her reputation and win her Dads trust back.

Sorry better not forget to mention the sassy cat, Willow and anxious goat, Brandy, who were the perfect edition to the wholesome, funny, heart wrenching story.

For me; this book was about two people, Adalyn and Cam, running away from their problems, finding their own space and where they fit in as well as finding each other. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we got a dual POV which for me was a big plus.

There was a whole bunch of fun side characters who served some good humor. When reading this book, it made me think of the movie, Feel the Beat. So for those who loved that movie, this may be a book for you.

This book wasn’t quite what I was expecting from an Elena Armas book. I would have loved to have gotten a bit more from her as I adored The American Roommate Experiment. Yet with the lead up to the end of the book, I’m quite intrigued as to how book 2, The Short List, will go so I have no doubt that I’ll be reading it.

Read this if you like:

  • Sports romance
  • Close proximity
  • Work romance
  • Small town
  • Dual POV

Elena Armas is one of my favorite authors so when I heard that this book was coming out, I knew I was going to love it and I’m so glad that I was right about it.

I love sports romances so the fact that I enjoyed this book came as no surprise to me. This book was everything I love in a good romance book. It featured some incredible tropes, was easy to follow and went by fairy quickly.

The characters in this book had some of the most convenient moments that I’ve ever read about in a romance book. They were constantly pushed together in the best of ways and Cameron Caldani was one of the best MMC’s that I’ve read recently. He was the perfect lead in this particular book and just made this book so much more fun to read.

All in all, I think I enjoyed this book more than the Spanish love deception and am interested to see what else Elena Armas comes up with in this particular universe.

This was my first Elena Armas novel, and unfortunately, I felt a bit flat. The first half was highly enjoyable with the slow-burn romance and banter, but towards the latter half, I felt myself becoming bored.

We follow our FMC Adalyn Reyes, who is perceived an ice-queen and is sent to Green Oaks after an embarrassing video of her becomes viral. Adalyn is tasked with helping the local girls’ soccer team and meets retired soccer star Cameron Caldan.

What ensues is a steamy, slow-burn romance that was fun but could have been executed better. However, it was the developing relationship between Adalyn and Cameron adorable side characters that made this enjoyable!
